Included

  • Pick up of travel documents at the airport. Arrival and departure transfer with scheduled Flybus.
  • Rental car with unlimited mileage, CDW, VAT and one authorized driver. Pick up of rental car on day 2. Drop off at Keflavík airport or in Reykjavík on departure day before 09:00. If the car is delivered outside of this time range, an extra day will be charged.
  • Accommodations are a combination of farmhouses, guesthouses and hotels. Breakfast is included.
  • Detailed road map (1:500 000), detailed itinerary and map with marked accommodations.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive at Keflavík airport

Arrive at Keflavík airport. Pick up your travel documents and transfer by airport shuttle to your hotel in Iceland's capital, Reykjavik. Runic Travels can recommend sites to see during your first day or just simply spend it relaxing in one of the many cafes.

Day 2: Drive along Hvalfjörð

Drive along Hvalfjörð to the agricultural region of Borgarfjörður. Along the way stop, at the magnificent Eldborg crater on route towards the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Here explore the towering Snæfellsjökull glacier.
Optional Excursions: Snowmobile tour of the glacier

Day 3: The Snæfellsnes Peninsula

Spend the morning exploring the natural wonders of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. View the countless birds along the Arnarstapi sea cliffs. From here you drive north along the coast, passing through lively fishing villages.
Optional Excursions: Boat tour from Stykkisholmur.

Day 4: Reykholt

Visit the historic home of saga author, Snorri Sturluson, at Reykholt. Afterwards continue onto the waterfall Hraunfossar and Deildartunguhver, the most powerful hot spring in Europe. From there, visit Þingvellir National Park, site of the ancient Icelandic parliament (4WD needed for Kaldidalur valley). From Þingvellir drive to the Geysir hot-spring area to witness the natural wonder and power of the geyser. End your day at the spectacular Gullfoss waterfall.

Day 5: Explore the South Shore

Explore the south shore, viewing the spectacular Skógafoss waterfall, Mýdalsjökull glacier and the black beaches around Vík. Visit Dyrhólaey headland where thousands of puffins nest every summer. Return to Reykjavík in the evening.
Optional Excursions: Snowmobile tour on Mýdalsjökull glacier, kayak tour from Stokkseyri.

Day 6: Drive to Reykjanes Peninsula

Drive to Reykjanes Peninsula for a visit to Lake Kleifarvatn with its moon like surrondings and then onto Krísuvík geothermal area with its bubbling mud pools. A visit to Grindavík fishing village and the famous Blue Lagoon for a relaxing soak in the mineral rich waters is also recommended. End your journey back at your hotel in Reykjavik and enjoy your last night in the "Capital of Cool."
Optional Excursions: Bathing in the Blue Lagoon, massage in the waters of the Blue Lagoon.

Day 7: Transfer Back to the Airport

A transfer back to the airport is included, but be sure to schedule your pickup time with the front desk. Whether you are returning home or extending your adventure, Runic Travels can provide any futher services you may require.
